Stage Show & Sustenance : The Twilight Zone Dinner Theatre

The Theatre Arts Department is pulling out all the stops this fall to bring La Jolla High a thrilling production of The Twilight Zone. The performance is composed of three separate episodes from the 1960’s sci-fi-horror hybrid television show. “The episodes have been modded, and parodied to be performed on stage,” clarifies Director and Performing Arts Teacher Stacey Allen. In order to get more people involved in the production, the plays are performed by two casts of La Jolla High theatre students who alternate every show. “I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s a really nice community and I would recommend it to anyone who’s interested in theatre,” says Freshman Julia Van Skike, who has roles in both casts.

The drama provides more than just entertainment. As the posters around campus advertise, the Twilight Zone Dinner Theatre provides its patrons with a three-course dinner, with the ‘off’ cast acting as wait staff. “At the school I used to work at, I did a dinner theatre every year and it was always successful,” explains Mr. Allen. It has been successful at La Jolla High too. The show is catered by local Italian restaurant La Dolce Vita; bringing in $750 a night. However, the theatre department doesn’t enjoy its spoils alone; most of the profits are used to pay for the food. “We can’t go over $8 a plate, and we leave about $2 for napkins and cups. That’s $10 a person,” said Mr. Allen

Showtimes are September 27th and 28th and October 3rd and 4th. Though all four shows are sold out, ticketless theatre fans can still support their friends and classmates around campus.
